Will there be a Bad Weather Shelter next year! It is up to you!
Due to budget cuts the City of Pasadena will not provide their usual $60,000 to help support the Bad Weather Shelter for next season. Federal monies may be reduced (usually $10-12,000). The shelter costs us $110,000 at minimum to operate for a season that is weather-activated throughout December and open each night in January and February, and serving families as well as adults.
ECPAC’s board has approved a half sized budget for the shelter for next year. We anticipate that $45,000 will be raised through Rebecca Huang’s Friends of the Bad Weather Shelter campaign, about $10,000 from the fall fundraiser and $10,000 from the federal government. Half the money means we can open the shelter only half the time. We may not be able to serve families. We may be open only in January, or maybe just weather activated all season long. The final decision on what the shelter will look like will be made at the end of September, 2012.
If you want to help in a BWS fundraising effort, please check out the Friends of the Bad Weather Shelter page and/or email Pat at pat@ecpac.net.
Pasadena Latter Day Saints’ Stake will be holding a massive Food Drive for ECPAC Friends In Deed on Saturday, April 28! This food drive will help us get through the lean months of the summer! All congregations invited to participate!
Save the Bad Weather Shelter Fundraising meeting, Thursday, May 3, 6:30PM at Friends In Deed, 444 East Washington Boulevard. If you are interested in being involved in efforts to save the BWS, please attend! RSVP- trishor@gmail.com.
